Seaton House Retreat Report
“At every moment of our existence God is communicating to us who God is, is trying to draw us into an awareness, a consciousness of the reality of who we are in God’s sight. Whether we are aware of it or not, at every moment of our existence we are encountering God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who is trying to catch our attention, trying to draw us into a reciprocal conscious relationship.” William A. Barry, SJ
Our Seton House retreat was a very meaningful time of coming into an awareness of God’s longing for us. Rob Des Cotes and his wife Ruth led us closer to the heart of God as we considered his love for us as revealed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the context of this love we were able to look at the disorder within and around us that keeps us from enjoying freedom in Christ. Rob introduced us to Igantius’ Spiritual Exercises which grounds one in an intimate knowledge of Jesus through times of meditation on His word.
When we gathered for our sharing times we all benefited from Rob’s spiritual direction and hearing from each other’s spiritual journey and quiet times with Jesus. As only He can do, the Holy Spirit drew together a diverse group of people around the amazing person of Jesus Christ. We came away rested and refreshed from spending time with Jesus and a beautiful group of His loved ones who long to draw closer to Him.
“Prayer begins with the realization that I am loved by God as I am. God’s love is the most basic and secure fact in my life. I simply let myself be loved by God. This is not so much an activity of mine as a passivity in which I let God’s love soak in and permeate my whole being.”
